Liothyronine is used to treat thyroid gland (hypothyroidism). It replaces or provides more thyroid hormone, which is usually made by the thyroid gland. Low levels of thyroid hormone can occur naturally or when the thyroid gland is damaged by radiation/medication or removed by surgery. having a sufficient amount of thyroid hormones helps to stay healthy. For children who have enough thyroid hormones, it usually helps them learn and grow.

This medication should not be used to treat infertility unless it is caused by small amounts of thyroid hormones.
